Elements of Excellence

The Elements of Excellence is a common lesson format to promote consistent best practice. This is a clear structure for teachers to follow and ensures students know where they stand. There is flexibility within this structure so that teachers can adapt lessons accordingly. The key aspects of this framework include; every teacher greeting students at door, a learning starts in sixty seconds task which involves students retrieving knowledge they have learnt previously, a template which links new learning to prior learning, an ‘I do, We do’ task where teachers model how to complete a task with full attention of students, followed by the Excellence Episode where students work in silence while the teacher circulates and checks for understanding.

Quality Assurance

Middle Leaders complete two cycles of Quality Assurance (QA) activities which include every staff being observed twice and a range of the following: learning walks, QA of books and assessments, student voice, standardisation and data analysis. All Middle Leaders observing will be standardised by SLT at least once, dependent on need and support required.

Portal of Excellence

The Portal of Excellence is a platform where excellent teachers model what we expect in lessons at EDA. This can be used during coaching conversations and provides a clear insight in to how the key aspects of the Elements of Excellence can be implemented in lessons.
